The Wollgarnfabrik today.
Here, a view of the inner courtyard showing the original Jugendstil clinker brick decorative façade. On the right, a "before" view of the interior.
The window fronts, suspended balconies, and glass elevator shafts were added.
The Wollgarnfabrik is typical of the functional industrial architecture built in Friedrichshain at the turn-of-the-century. Most were woodworking factories, one a piano factory. Today they are used as apartments, offices, and new media studios.
